Mission: My personal mission now has two parts, promoting ocean literacy and facilitating personal growth.

Ocean Literacy: I believe that humans can find better ways to coexist with the ocean, and have devoted my career to making this possible. My scientific research, following the motion of pollutants and microscopic organisms through the marine environment, has directly affected a number of coastal management decisions. My teaching and educational research promote and measure students' ability to make informed decisions about the ocean. Ocean And You, offers marine education as in-class field trips, after school enrichment, adult education and storytelling.

Personal Growth: I also believe that the each human being has the right and responsibility to become her or his best self, and to help make the world a better place. Academic success in middle school and high school is a critical step on that path. My new project, Awareness Learning facilitates personal growth with workshops, academic coaching and personal storytelling.
